As art collectors and lovers of history, Jim and I have discovered valuable art finds in unlikely places: dusty old antique shops, attics, barns and boxes from estate sales. Once recovered, these pieces often benefit from some cleaning and restoration before they are framed for posterity and exhibited for pleasure. You have probably had similar experiences. If you have unearthed a print, a photo, a watercolor, a faded oil or acrylic painting—or even an old sampler—we have the ability to improve its condition before you display or store it. Their worth can never be stated in terms of the almighty dollar. Birth certificates, war documents, photos, passports and immigration papers—the dreams, hopes and hard labors of our ancestors are powerfully represented by the yellowing fragments of crumbling bits of paper. Some of our most satisfying and poignant projects have been in family memorabilia, and we have great respect for the “lives” such mementoes have led up until the moment you bring them to our studio. While we can never restore such pieces to their original state, we can slow the progress of time. In this respect, we tend to be cautious and minimalist in our approach. Like the lined face of a loved one, most family memorabilia has creases, foxing and spots which give it character and add to its story. We have the techniques that can keep these marks from advancing and increase the life span of the piece.Leslie Davis Preservation Framing is the preferred framer for artists, collectors, museums and families because of our archival techniques--since our framing always has preservation in mind--but also because of our refined aesthetic and wide range of framing styles. We feel that all art has an ideal mate in mounting and frame style, so we strive to achieve that ideal. We do not use the same materials as the storefront or mall framers in your neighborhood.
